Cathy and Richard Alexander opened "The Melting Pot" at White and Buchanan streets October 1, 2004. Retired from long careers, and longtime Norman residents, the Alexanders said they opened their store to brighten the lives of Norman, Oklahoma families and friends.
The Alexanders have transformed a building that had served as a boot and shoe repair business for more than 50 years into an interesting business and a second career. They are among those fashioning a renaissance for Campus Corner.
"We selected everthing in this store because we love it" Cathy said. "We're having the time of our lives."
The shop brims with products that make life more pleasant, Cosmetics, Skin care and bath products, Artistic figurines and garden statuary. Soft toys, baby shoes and clothing, Hand-painted serving ware. Scented candles and fragrance lamps.
First priority for Cathy was to stock merchandise of genuine value like Burt's Bees and Crabtree & Evelyn personal products, artistic and whimsical gifts like Jim Shore figurines and George Carruth statuary, and items not generall found in Norman, such as Bobux baby shoes (guaranteed to stay on little feet) and unique aluminum-pewter servingware that can go from freezer to oven and back.
There are "New Native" baby carriers, slung from the neck to transport infants; wind chimes; inspirational books and wall signs and even casserole warmers - soft insulated bags that keep food hot for hours.
"Our niche? We're a melting pot of unique gifts for any purpose," Cathy said.
The Melting Pot, has now brought its fine line of unique gifts to the mail order market of the USA. We will package and ship items such as statuary that other shops consider too troublesome. Our goal is to make your online shoping an enjoyable experience.
